High court scuttles Malaysia swap deal
The High Court has ruled against the Federal Government’s refugee swap deal with Malaysia, throwing into doubt the future of the scheme. The deal was put on hold following a challenge from two asylum seekers who were scheduled to be among the first to be transferred to Malaysia from Christmas Island.

Luc and I are sitting in one of the bunkers at the governor’s palace downtown. The marines are watching the streets outside the wire. The city around here has been destroyed. The buildings are broken and crumbling. Walls are gone. There are no windows, only holes. Roofs have collapsed and now lie in rubble and wreckage.
